Day 14
After carefully nursing trigger back from the dead lazarus style, steady eddie proudly pronounced us roadworthy and we set off at a prompt 6.30 desperate to claw back the missed time.
With Mike G on first shift trigger had a small hiccup after 20 mins when pushed past 50kph when she nipped up fpor a fraction of a second, but soon regained momentum as we sped along. Hitting Chennia proved fun if you can imaginbe driving through London centre in a tuc tuc with wild eyed injins bearing down on you.
Several hours later we were spat out the other side and the beach was in sight !!
A prompt decision was made to head for a local resort town and stop for the night at Mahabalipuram, which proved a very good decision that many other teams had also made. Upon hitting the town we soon made our way to the beach for a much needed down time of surfing and chilling.
In the evening we migrated to the same bar as most other teams where tall tales were swapped with other teams, getting grander every time they were told and our first real meal of non curry. In true typical northern style we went for good old fashioned fish n chips. Red snapper though!!
Day 15
After all agreeing we would have one full day of nothing as the town was so nice before we complete the last 60 kms to the finish line we all looked forward to a sleep in. At 6am prompt we all awoke and could not get back off to sleep, fat lot of good that plan was!!
Waking up to find the local hooligans trashing the place outside our room we felt as though we were back in the UK.
All splitting up to do our own thing for the day the twins Mike went for a massage and to view the local temple, where as matt decided to sit on the beach and read his book. The problem was he made this decision at roughly midday. Wondering why nobody else was there he blindly ignored his burning back for some 3 hours before wincing in pain as he got up.
after much laughing and pisstaking was made of him, another round of fish n chips was in order for evening meal and in yet another true northern tradition, a night on the town was called for. however, at 8pm, all parties were sorely flagging and by 9pm everyone was tucked up in bed.
Tomorrow we head for the finish line and party hard.. bed by 10 then !!
